Thessaloniki is very well connected via different domestic and international transportation.

By Air: Thessaloniki Airport, "Macedonia" (airport code "SKG", information phone number +30.310.473212), is only 15 Km from the Excelsior Hotel or Thessaloniki's center. The recently (2000) renovated airport is the main hub for Northern Greece and the second largest airport of Greece, after Athens International Airport. There are numerous domestic and international daily flights in and out of Thessaloniki.

By Rail: Thessaloniki has the biggest and busiest train terminal station in Greece. There are numerous domestic and international daily departures and arrivals, connecting Thessaloniki with other Greek and European cities.

Rental Cars, Buses, private automobiles, taxis: There are many international and local car rental companies with presence in the city. You will find links to their websites in our links page. Also, note that there are many private companies offering daily bus service from and to Thessaloniki, along with the state-run KTEL organization of public bus service or its Thessaloniki Branch (Greek only).

By ferry: If you are travelling by ferry from Bari, Ancona, Brindisi, or Venice, you will arrive at the city of Igoumenitsa, on the West coast of Greece. Once in Igoumenitsa, proceed in the direction of the city of Ioannina via the Egnatia Motorway (Egnatia Odos) and continue further towards Thessaloniki. Total traveling distance from Igoumenitsa to Thessaloniki is about 3.5 hours, in mountainous scenery that will leave you mesmerized.

Alternatively, from Italy, you may reach the southern Greek port of Patras, instead of Igoumenitsa. If so, use a map to the following course: From Patras (taking the road to Athens), to Rio, crossing to Antirio (via car ferry), on to Amfissa and then Lamia, where you will join the Athens-Thessaloniki Highway, turning North to Thessaloniki. (The Patras to Thessaloniki drive is 488 Km or about 6 hours, including the ferry time).

The Excelsior is located in downtown Thessaloniki, right in the heart of the financial, business & commerce district. Thessaloniki's airport "Macedonia" is 15 Km (10 miles) to the South, or about a 35' drive (50' under heavy traffic). Thessaloniki's train station is less than 2 Km (1+ mile) away, and under normal circumstances, it's only a 10' ride. However, during rush hour, it may take as much as 20'. There are public buses that can take you to (or bring you from) the train station; bus stops are right across the street from the hotel.
